NYC Site Safety Coordinator Certification Requirements
NYC Site Safety Coordinator Requirements – NYC DOB:
- Certified Site safety coordinators must be onsite at all construction or demolitions of
major buildings that are 10 to 14 stories.
- Site Safety coordinators may not supervise buildings above 14 stories
- Site safety coordinator certification is valid for one year and a $100 initial
fee must be paid to NYC DOB prior to background investigation.

NYC DOB Minimum Requirements for Site Safety Coordinator:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Be able to read, write, and understand the English language, and
- Be able to provide the required documentation to verify experience for one of the qualifications below
- Have completed a DOB approved Site Safety Manager Training Course and
- Have good moral character, so as to not adversely impact upon fitness to perform the duties and responsibilities
of a Site Safety Manager
Part A (requirements):
- Be a New York State Licensed Professional Engineer
- Have completed a DOB approved Site Safety Manager orientation course within one year prior to application.
- Have 2 years experience supervising major buildings. **
OR
Part B (requirements):
- Be a New York State Registered Architect
- Have completed a DOB approved Site Safety Manager orientation course within one year prior to application
- Have 2 years of experience supervising major buildings. **
OR
Part C (requirements):
- Have 5 years of practical experience in construction supervision or construction safety experience,
including at least three years of such experience with major buildings; and
- Have completed a DOB approved 40 Hour Site Safety Manager course within one year prior to application.
** Major Building as defined by NYC DOB:
- 10 or more stories, or 125 feet or more in height, or 100,000 square feet or more of lot coverage, regardless of height,
or as designated by the commissioner of the DOB.
